Simple Summer Cocktail with a Twist: My version of the Lynchburg Lemonade

Try this ridiculously simple and refreshing twist on the Lynchburg Lemonade.
It’s light, refreshing, citrus-y, and it involves whiskey.  Mmm…  It’s perfect for parties, or, you know,  immediate consumption after you get home from work on Friday night, after having already changed into lounge wear that least resembles business-appropriate attire.

Mandarin Oranges (washed)
Basil (for garnish)
Club soda (optional)

Fill a 16 oz. glass 1/3 full of ice.
Add 1 1/2 shots of whiskey (TIP:  Although I’m in favor of making a drink more boozy than it needs to be 9 out of 10 times, this proportion of alcohol is just perfect for this drink.  Adding more whiskey really changes to flavor to something much less palatable.)
Add approximately 3/4 cup of lemonade (or fill to your preference).
Slice a mandarin orange in half and squeeze the juice of one half into the glass.
Slice the remaining half of the orange into several segments and insert into the drink mixture.
Stir drink thoroughly.
Add basil for garnish.

If you’d like to add some bubbles, put a splash of club soda in there.

How easy was that?  Cheers!
